Lumbini

The plain and low land of Terai which is sprawling wide on the lap of Churia Hill has a place called Lumbini. The whole world knows the importance of the place and, therefore the place has been declared the World Heritage Center in 1997 by UNESCO. The travelers from the world and the author from Asia have written the books about it and say the place is holding the equal meaning to the Buddhist as Jerusalem to millions of Christian, and Mecca to the Muslims. The sacred place Lumbini is being visited by a large numbers of Buddhist from the world.

Ashoka Pillar: The great kind eye of Buddha and his first attempt to the world’s peace is still vividly alive. The monuments erected by Emperor Ashoka in 250 B. C. to pay homage to Buddha and to his soul, still blowing the peace air. With many important historical monuments, the lake and the wall paintings, script on the wall of Stupa has conveying the massage of peace and attracting the people from the world. The stone pillar brings the message with following inscription; “Here Buddha Sakyamuni was born. He caused a stone pillar to be erected, because the worshipful one was born here”.

Mayadevi Temple:  Among the important site of Lumbini Mayadevi is also one. It depicts the birth scene of Lord Buddha. The images carved on the stone are the mother of Buddha Maya Devi, the new born child Buddha and the other celestial figure who are supposed to celebrate the birth of Lord. It has been believed that at the time of new born Maya Devi holding strong a bough of sal tree with her right hand she gave birth to Buddha and he who is standing near by her stands on the lotus pedestal. The birth was celebrated by the god of world creator and by the god from heaven. The mythology on this is said that while Maya Devi gave birth to Buddha, she was standing and holding the tree. Knowing the situation the god Indra put the lotus pedestal on the place where Buddha was supposed to come down. Everyone who visits the temple boasts and feels pride on to have mother like Maya Devi on this earth.

Near by the temple there is a lake having erected a small image of Buddha at the center, was the lake where Maya Devi used to take bath and, later, she used the lake to purify Buddha, too.

On the northern part of the Peace garden the Eternal Peace Flam is burning. The garden has almost a temple from many Asian country which represents the meaning of peace and brings it to their country is supposed. In the garden and around of it many creature are living. Mainly as the visitors are increased on the volume more than 100 types of the birds are chirping and welcoming the new comers.

As it has been well known and the utmost sacred place for Buddhist, around the garden the hotels, restaurant, café, communication and other necessity of the travelers are made in easy access with transportation means to in or out.
