
Bhaktapur city, which is also known as Bhadgaun is very famous with the image of museum, of medieval art and carvings. The well known pagoda styles temples consecrated to the god and goddess can easily see on the yard of Durbar Square and every where in the corner of the city. Medieval works of art still dominate the city. Appreciating the works of art the city is announced the world heritage center by UNESCO.
1402m high from the sea level, the city lies 15km to the east of kathmandu. The city is still producing the traditional art and pottery delivering to all over the country and especially the art works to all over the world. The square is with fascinating architectural museum like place where the worlds art lover brooding over and gazing at. The golden effigies of the kings perched on the top of stone monoliths, the guardian deities looking out from their sanctuaries, the wood carvings in every place; struts, lintels, upright, tympanums, peacock framed windows are seems like the background of the orchestra below the open sky.Â

Lion Gate: At the entrance gate two dreadful statues of the lion seems guarding the Lord.
The gate is named by the name of giant statues which is inset in 1696 A.D.
Golden Gate: Golden gate is realized the most beautiful and lovely one in the entire world. As entered the gate the figure of the God Kali is seen and the goddess is attended by the Garuda (mythical man-bird) and the other two celestial nymphs. With fine design of the stone carved wings on the back of the man’s figure is appreciable which can not be seen in another world. The eminent figure of the man-bird statues, praying goddess kali and the other carving of monster has embellished the courtyard more. The finely designated world famous art found in the courtyard is being supposed the pouch of the diamond. The courtyard is constructed and designated by Ranjit Malla the king of the time.
The Palace with fifty five Windows: Among the many beautiful site, that prevails on the durbar square the palace with its fifty five windows is another attraction. The magnificent Palace, which was built in 1427 and was remodeled again later in seventeenth century is considered to be unique and the finest wood carving. Altogether with the ancient wood carvings, sculpture, works of art the Durbar Square is like of the garden of arts. So many things are well managed and scattered in each corner of the Palace courtyard. Â Â
